Churchill Downs seeks to drop 7 spring race days

The commission convenes Tuesday afternoon for the first time since the Kentucky Derby. The Louisville track figures to be one of the major points of business.
The track also plans to reduce purses for six graded stakes races.
Churchill officials and horsemen have cited various reasons for the shortage, including tougher competition from tracks in other states where expanded gambling revenue supplements purses.
Churchill Downs has had problems finding enough horses to fill all the races.
